18. Mendel was an Austrian monk who performed some of the first ever experiments on genetics. Tell me how, when Mendel did his experiment before 1856 , that Mendel's work was still accepted by scientists in 1900, forty four years later??
19. Describe the process of how you get 1/2 of your chromosomes from your Mom and 1/2 of your genes from your Dad. (Check out Figs 4-11 and 5-1 to help you answer this clearly.
20. Explain, in science terms, why Mendel could cross tall purple flowered pea plants with short white flowered pea plants and get all tall purple flowered pea plants in the first generation.

31 Explain what sickle cell anemia is AND tell what part of our population is most prone to this disease.

33. Tell what a sex linked disorder is AND give an example of one.
34. Genetic engineering is a very controversial subject nowadays. In fact, many countries in the European common market will not allow any of their food products to contain genetically engineered substances. Explain what it means to genetically engineer a plant and how it could positively affect the resulting crops.
Part G Assignment 5.4 The Human Genome Project (10) points for this job)
a. Complete Vocabulary building using the Science Word page 144. (3pts. Ea. = 5 pts.)
b. Questions: Answer question 35. (5 total points!)
35. Contrary to popular belief, the Human Genome project is not complete!!!! In fact, the project is still going on strong. What they did do so far is unravel the code for all the major genes in the genome of one human being. We don't know what traits each gene codes for yet and probably won't for a number of years. Completely explain how information from this project could be useful in the future.
