It pays to be prepared and ready for any Emergency! You may save a life...

 
Create a Flash card for each Procedure.

On the front side: List Card number, your name and period #.

Then tell the name of the procedure and number of steps/parts on one side.

Ex: "What are the three parts of the Fire Triangle?"

On the back side: Tell the answers / actions IN ORDER if there are steps. 

Take away any Oxygen, Fuel, and Heat and the fire will go out.

 

Pass/Fail Card 1, part A Procedure One: The Fire Triangle

Three things all fires need to exist are: Oxygen, Fuel, and Heat!

 

 

Pass/Fail Card 1, part B: What are the three methods to put out a fire?

Take away Oxygen, Fuel or Heat from the fire and the fire will go out.

 

 

Pass/Fail Card 2. The Four different classes of fire:

Class

Fuel

Class A

Wood/paper

Class B

Flammable Liquids, Oil, or Natural Gas

Class C

Electrical

Class D

Burning metal This is a special kind of fire. Tri class fire extinguishers don't work on these. Need Class D fire extinguisher. (Powered graphite to smother the fire)

 

Pass/Fail Card 3. Response to ALL FIRES at Skyview

1. Take initial action - Stop/drop/roll, spray water, fire extinguisher, etc

2. Pull fire alarm

3. Call 911 and tell Operator information

... Evacuate - go to fire drill station

 

Pass/Fail Card 4. Emergencies (general) Calling 911.

Tell the operator the following three things.

1. Location - Skyview JHS

2. Specific Location - Science Lab # (135 or whatever) on the lower level

3. Nature of emergency (Fire, injury, poisoning etc)

 

Card 5. Chemical spills on people and things

Dry chemicals - External

1. Brush off & Flush - do not wash until you brush! Keep flushing for 15 mins

2. Call/get Nurse #6806

3. 911 if major

4. Clean up spill

Wet chemicals - External

1. Flush ASAP and keep flushing for 15 mins

2. Call/get Nurse #6806

3. 911 if major

4. Clean up spill

 

Card 7. Chemical spills on people and things

Swallowed chemical - Wet or Dry

1. Treat for shock

2. Call/get Nurse #6806

3. 911 if major

4. Clean up spill

 

Card 8. Chemical spills on people and things

For Clean up of Chemical spills on deck or counter.

1. Wet - Cover with kitty litter or sand from bucket

2. Both wet and dry - Sweep up and dispose of it in double plastic bag.

3. Flush or wash off area.

4. However, If hazardous fumes etc, evacuate immediately and call 911

 

Card 9. Electrical Shock

1. Turn off Electrical shutoff!

2. Treat for shock - (If CPR Trained & Heart is stopped begin CPR)

3. Call nurse/get nurse 6806

4. Call 911

 

Card 10.   Biological Hazard Prevention Part A

Major Hazards are infections

A. Potential Causes:
1. Cuts and scratches

2. Direct contact with pathogenic cultures

3. Animal wastes

4. Animal bites

5. Spray from syringes

6. Accidental syringe injection

 

Card 11. Biological Hazard Prevention Part B

Major Hazards are infections

B. Precautions
1. Wash Hands after labs

2. Use proper Personal Protective Equipment

3. Clean Lab surfaces regularly with disinfectant

 

Card 12. Injured student and Treating for Shock

1. Take ABC initial action (ie check for airway/breathing, stop bleeding etc)

2. Treat for shock

a. Lie down if not swallowed chemical ( keep upright)

b. If neck or back problem do not move! Elevate head for head injury, Feet for others.

c. Cover with blankets for warmth

d. Reassure victim! Keep calm, tell them what you're doing to help them

3. Call/get Nurse #6806

4. 911 if major

 

Card 13. Evacuation and isolation for biological or chemical spill

1. Follow evacuation route for your class

2. If isolation is needed muster in a group away from all others

3. Call / get nurse #6806

4. Call 911 asap
