Safety Pre Test

Circle Safe if the statement indicates a safe condition, Unsafe if an unsafe condition.

1. Safe Unsafe The instructor calls for the class's attention during a lab. Taylor is too busy chatting and doesn't hear what the instructor said.

2. Safe Unsafe Susie accidently splashes a small amount of acid on her cheek. She wipes it off and continues her experiment.

3. Safe Unsafe A small gas fire breaks out in the lab. It is caused by faulty gas bunsen burner. The instructor tells Kim to turn off the Emergency gas shutoff. Kim goes right to the shutoff and flips the green lever to the off position immediately.

4. Safe Unsafe Bobby is a science super star. He knows the experiment the class is doing by heart, but still insists on reading all the directions as he goes. Susie, who is very popular, says Bobby is wasting valuable time by doing this. Bobby insists on going through the directions anyways. Susie decides Bobby is uncool and ignores him. Is Susie safe or unsafe?

5. Safe Unsafe Amanda sees the safety goggles and apron she is supposed to wear for the experiment and decides they aren't stylish enough for her. She doesn't put them on.

6. Safe Unsafe Jennifer comes into the lab and sees that the class is doing an experiment today. She immediately takes off her loose shirt and hoop earings, and puts her hair in a bun.

7. Safe Unsafe The liquid in Jake's experiment has just turned bright purple. Jake is excited! He decided he wants to smell the way cool new chemical he has just produced and takes a big whiff of it.

8. Safe Unsafe Kaitlin accidently spills a wet chemical, sodium hydroxide, on her sleeve. She quickly moves to the sink, flushes the affected area, and calls for help.

9. Safe Unsafe Cody and Kelly are cooling a chemical solution. Cody gets up too fast and knocks over the beaker with the chemical, breaking it. Since he doesn't want to get into trouble, he picks up the mess with his fingers and wipes the lab station clean with his sweatshirt.

10. Safe Unsafe Michael is heating a solution in a test tube, and decides he wants to find a way to attract the cute new girl's attention. He points the mouth of his test tube at her and shoots some hot chemicals her way.

11. Safe Unsafe Brian is a helpful dude. While washing up after finishing his experiment, he notices Sam and Noreen aren't cleaned up. He wants to help, so he reaches over to the electrical outlet with his wet hands and pulls out the plug to their hot plate.

12. Safe Unsafe Kerrie finishes her part of the lab experiment and notices her face has gotten so shiny from all this boring science work! She starts to whip out her face powder and lipstick. She stops and thinks, then decides it would be better to wait till after lab.

13. Safe Unsafe Alicia has just finished a lab using Walking Sticks. She is late, and feels hurried, but takes the utmost care to return the Walking Sticks to their home and puts the screen cover on carefully and securely.

14. Safe Unsafe Samantha and Sara are running late once again. They do a poor job of cleaning up and leave without washing their hands.
