How to format a Figure schmied/reid©2007
Students in Science Seven practice how to record what they observe many different ways. Learning how to record what they observe in a figure is a skill that we build throughout the year. It builds their powers of observation and their ability to understand and analyze what they are actually seeing at a much higher level.
A picture saves 1000 words!! That's why it is so important in science to learn how to draw, or illustrate complex and important things that you see. Everyone hates lengthy explanations, so why not learn how to draw? In science a drawing is called a Scientific Illustration. When it becomes published in a report, or text, the entire Scientific Illustration is called a Figure and given a number and a title, like Figure One below. Use this Figure and your Standard Formats rubric to help guide and double check your work!
