Structure (Part Name)

Function (What it does)

1. Turret

Turns Eyepiece for view/storage

2. Med Power Objective

Magnifies incoming light 10x

3. Low Power Objective

Magnifies incoming light 4x

4. High Power Objective

Magnifies incoming light 40x

5. Slide Clips

Hold slide in place on stage

6. Stage

Holds Slide, allows shift of focus for better viewing.

7. Diaphragm

Changes incoming light levels and angle

8. Light Source

Illuminates (provides light) to see sample better

9. On / off switch

Turns scope on and off

10. Base

Provides stable base, absorbs vibration

11. Power Cord

Provides electricity for light source

12. Fine Focus

Changes focus very slightly for precise viewing

13. Coarse Focus

Low Power Only - For initial focusing

14. Yoke, or Arm

For moving scope, hold yoke and base of scope

15, Eyepiece or initial Objective

Initial objective, magnifies incoming light 10x

EC (top) Tube

Holds Eyepiece at a fixed position in focus

EC (lower) Revolving Nosepiece

Contains prism to change light path. Spins to allow Objectives to be changed without losing focus
